I should have had my quilt judged

I love “Hangin’ Around.” I designed the pattern, pieced, appliqued and quilted it myself. I am very proud of my work. But I didn’t have it judged in the Great River Quilt show, hosted by my guild the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild.

I just entered it for display because of the quilting in the final border. I attempted a leaf pattern that was too difficult for my free motion quilting skills.

Now I’m kicking myself because a little bird told me I would have won a ribbon if I would have just entered it in the crib quilts category. Oh well, there’s always the county fair and I have another pattern designed for a giant owl and ideas for three more in a modern crib quilts series that I can enter next time. So the lesson here is to always have your quilt judged, because we’re harder on ourselves than others are … even quilt judges.

Update: Hangin’ Around is now available for download.

Here’s a look at some of the other beautiful quilts from the show. You can see more on the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild Facebook page.
